Races

In Europe we know 3 kinds of races:

Sprint races

Mid distance races

Long distance races

 

  • Sprint races

These are usually 2 day races and the distance to run depends on the class you're in e.g.:

C-class        about       7 Km a day

B-class            ,,         12 Km

A-class            ,,        16 Km

O-class            ,,        18 Km

S-class            ,,        12 Km

For all kinds of races; the musher with the best end result is the winner.

 

  • Mid distance races

Usually 2 day, sometimes 3 day races. There are 3 different classes:

Limited        4-6 dogs

Unlimited     7- maximum number of dogs recommended by the race marshal's

S-class         1-3 dogs

The distance to run is between 40 and 100 Km a day.

 

  • Long distance races

A race over more then 2 days, and over greater distances. Also in these races is run in the limited and the unlimited class, and the distance of the stages is about 100Km aday, but in Europe the mostly run about 50 Km aday.

The most known long distance race in Europe is the Alpentrial that covers about 350 Km in 7 stages.
